Jonathan How
Training Manager

Mr. Jonathan How is the current Technical Advisor for the Singapore Rope Access Association (SRAA).  He holds a concurrent position as Evaluator for SRAA and Assessor for Australian Rope Access Association (ARAA).  Mr. Jonathan How was instrumental in the formation of the Singapore Rope Access Association and was the Founding Chairman.

Mr. How graduated with a Master of Science with Merit in Safety, Health & Environment with the University of Greenwich, London, United Kingdom.  He started industrial rope access in the late 90s and was one of the pioneers whom brought industrial rope access to Singapore and its nearby regions in ASEAN.  He is also a current of the SPRAT (Society of Professional Rope Access Technicians) International Committee Member.  He was involved with the Industrial Rope Access Trade Association (IRATA) and held various portfolios in IRATA, including Training Committee Member, Trainer, Assessor and Auditor prior to the formation of SRAA.

Arising from his experiences with various rope access associations, in order to implement the best OSH best practices in industrial rope access, Mr. How played a key role in the development of the Singapore Standard SS 588 Part I/II.  As the convenor of both standards, the key role is to contextualise the document to local needs and requirements.  The key changes include a push for greater ownership by industry for OSH outcomes with the introduction of the first series of Singapore Standards on rope access industry, is applicable for situations where ropes are used as the primary means of access, egress or support as the primary means of protection against a fall.  The Ministry of Manpower since adopted it as an Approved Code of Practice.

Mr. How continued to lead developments, including the signing of an MOU between Australia, Korea, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Taiwan and Singapore in the rope access scene.   In the regional and international arena, Mr. How has presented many papers on Industrial Rope Access, including Taiwan, America, Indonesia and Singapore.

Besides being a Graduate Member of the Institution of Occupational Safety & Health and a Professional Member of the Singapore Institution of Safety Officers, Mr. How is also an elected Member of the Institute of Marine Engineering, Science & Technology and is a Full Member of the International Institute of Risk and Safety Management.

Mr. How is a registered Workplace Safety & Health Officer with the Ministry of Manpower and is also a registered Environmental Control Officer with the National Environment Agency.  Beyond his current portfolio, Mr. How used to volunteer with the Lions Club Singapore and serves as a Director with Lions Club.

Mr. How is a self-motivated and dynamic person whom is well traveled and can adapt to difficult situations.  He also believes in lifelong learning and continued to enhance his own skills and knowledge throughout the years.
